Institute Overview

The Research Institute of Disaster Medicine has been established to address medical and other challenges associated with emerging infectious diseases, typhoons, earthquakes, and other natural disasters. The Institute aims to foster specialists in disaster medicine and to establish research models to facilitate disaster medicine and nursing research in the post-COVID-19 era. To this end, the Institute brings together expertise from across Chiba University, including the departments of medicine, pharmaceutical sciences, nursing, and horticulture, as well as the Medical Mycology Research Center and the Center for Artificial Intelligence Research in Therapeutics.

The Institute is composed of 16 research divisions, forming four synergistic research and education clusters in a comprehensive and integrative manner. These clusters are: Disaster Medicine Research Core, Basic Science, Clinical Science, and Social Science. Going beyond the conventional research and education framework, the Institute pursues disaster medicine research in an innovative manner, trains and educates specialists in emergency medical care, and builds disaster disease information networks. Moreover, the Institute will contribute to building safe and secure communities capable of responding to the changing lifestyles of the post-COVID-19 era.
